 In this workshop we will explore several techniques to use felt as a central element for jewelry design. We will learn about needle felting, building structures with flat felt, and basic embroidery. We will also explore how to incorporate findings and hardware to make pieces that are ready for wear. Students will be encouraged to experiment with color, volume, and texture to find their personal style within this playful medium. Each participant can expect to leave with multiple finished works and the knowledge to build an ongoing wardrobe of fiber-based glam. All is included, tea as well workshop fee is 55. ArtWaves members receive a $10 discount.


Phoebe Zildjian, your instructor, is an artist and educator based in Stonington, Maine. She holds a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from Maine College of Art, and is the Fab Lab Coordinator at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.Her passion lies with experimenting with new materials, techniques, and processes, and blending old and new types of making. She has taught students of all ages on topics ranging from molding and casting to knot making, from digital fabrication to historic techniques. She has been an artist in residence at Pocosin Arts in North Carolina, The Possible Zone in Massachusetts, and The Carpenter’s Boat Shop in Pemaquid, Maine.
