Volunteer at ArtWaves

ArtWaves is primarily volunteer-led and we could not provide the programming and events you see listed without the generous support of our wonderful volunteers.  

Our Volunteer League brings people together to connect, collaborate, and support creative work within the community.  It is a space to share ideas, build relationships, lend a hand and contribute in meaningful ways --- and everyone is welcome.  Whether you are an experienced artist or simply curious to learn more about how to support our mission send a note entitled "Interested in Volunteering" to office@artwavesmdi.org

Benefits of Volunteering

• Choose the volunteer roles and workshop positions that fit your interests and schedules.  There is no minimum amount of time required to be part of the Volunteer League.

• Quarterly special volunteer Open Studio Time to build social connections and a creative community while practicing your skills.

• Free quarterly volunteer-only make & take workshops and training.

• Annual volunteer party (December).

• For volunteers with specific skills to share we offer support and mentorship to help you facilitate a class using ArtWaves materials and promotion.

Volunteer Opportunities

• OPEN STUDIO MONITORS:   Support our Open Studio program by helping out one Sunday a month from 12:00pm to 4:00pm  (arrival at 11:45am).  Monitors open and close the Kaleidoscope Studio, greet members, oversee sign-in and answer questions.  It is a great time to work on your projects or start a new one. 

• CLASS INSTRUCTORS:   Share specific skills you have with the community by hosting a class at ArtWaves as a volunteer activity.  You are welcome to have some dedicated studio time to prepare samples/kits.  Overnight housing may be available if you are coming from a distance.

• MATERIALS SORTING:   ArtWaves receives regular donations of materials including glass, mosaic, jewelry, fabric etc.  This is a hands-on, collaborative task for those who enjoy working with color.

• ASSIST A GUEST ARTIST:   Have a particular passion or interest.  Support one of our guest artists by helping to set up class, organize the facility and clean up.  Learn new skills, participate in the class (based upon minimum # of students) and get professional art experience.

• KEEP ARTWAVES BEAUTIFUL:  Volunteers keep our multi-building and multi-acre property in shape.  We regularly need volunteers for building and grounds work - routine maintenance, landscaping, small repairs and painting.  With guidance from staff and our board volunteers can jump in where needed and keep our space safe, functional and welcoming.

• SUPPORT GETTING THE WORD OUT:   Hang flyers and signs, assist with fundraising activities and amplify our social media efforts.
