She runs performing arts camps in Bar Harbor and Castine in the summers and is currently studying performing arts production and education as well as music composition at the University of Maine - Orono. Kelly is a strong believer in the power of the arts as a means of developing social-emotional skills and improving our abilities to express ourselves and understand each other at any age. Kelly has over a decade of experience serving on non-profit boards and is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the stewardship of ArtWaves -- your community arts center -- as we move together into an exciting future full of possibilities! Tyra Hanson Tyra Hanson is the director of The Gallery at Somes Sound and Frenchman’s Bay Planning & Design Inc. She has been involved in creative space planning off and on for the past forty years, working with builders, architects and developers both in Maine and New Hampshire. In 2010 she opened the Gallery at Frenchman’s Bay, now known as The Gallery at Somes Sound in the Village of Somesville on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Her passion for working with artists, promoting their fine art, has allowed her to continuously expand the gallery’s collection. Her experience in creative space planning and in utilizing the qualities and characteristics of natural light, focusing on its intensity, direction, and color variations, allows her to enhance the presentation and quality of the artists’ fine art and studio furniture on display. Tyra also enjoys greeting art enthusiasts and working with clients who require assistance in choosing acquisitions for their home or business. In addition to serving on the board of directors with the Mount Desert Chamber of commerce, Tyra remains active with local non-profit organizations, a supporter of the Wendell Gilley Museum, a member of the business advisor’s team with Friends of Acadia. She is a business partner with Portland Museum of Art and an active supporter of the N.H. Furniture Masters. She is excited to contribute to ArtWaves during this exciting time. Ben Lincoln Artist Ben Lincoln was raised on Mt. Desert Island. After departing for Boston in 1989 to study art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in the studio of Domingo Barerres, followed by ten year stints in Boston and Middlebury, VT, he returned to MDI in 2012. He now lives and continues his practice in Town Hill. Currently his work is focused on a series of landscapes intended to connect his personal experiences of Acadia with the inherited, generational memories of his ancestors who helped establish the park which now inspires his paintings. Ben is looking forward to serving on the ArtWaves Board and hopes to create more opportunities for young men to get involved in the arts. Jeff Miller Jeff is a longtime volunteer and former property manager at ArtWaves and an avid sailor who loves spending time on the water. While not an artist, he deeply values the role the arts play in building strong, connected communities -- he has witnessed first hand the joy that comes from the classes and workshops at ArtWaves. With more than 30 years of experience in property management, building operations, and small business ownership, Jeff brings a practical perspective to the board and is excited to help however needed. Kim Eason Nubel Kim is an artist, producer, and arts leader with over two decades of experience spanning broadcast media, graphic design, film production, and community-based arts education. With a deep commitment to arts access, Kim is actively developing after-school programs and camps at ArtWaves for children on Mount Desert Island in partnership with local schools. Her work centers on creative opportunities grounded in process-based learning that exceed the national standards for art education. Professionally, Kim spent more than 13 years at Turner Broadcasting System in Atlanta, serving in roles including Producer, Graphics Specialist, and Event Planner and worked at FOX Sports, creating broadcast graphics for nightly sports programming. Alongside her media career, Kim owned and operated an Abrakadoodle Art franchise for nearly ten years, partnering with more than 50 schools, churches, and camps throughout the Atlanta area to deliver accessible, high-quality art programming for children. She has also led numerous community-based public art projects, including a mural project in partnership with the Metropolitan Atlanta Olympic Games Authority, working directly with children in Atlanta’s inner city. Earlier in her career on MDI, she taught art through SFOA and guided students in creating a public mural on the side of Don’s Shop and Save in Bar Harbor depicting the history of Mount Desert Island, as well as owned an art gallery in Southwest Harbor. Jaime Torres Jr. Jaime lives on a farm in Hancock County, in the village of Lamoine, Maine with his son, Connor. He’s been in Financial Services for 25+ years and has served in different capacities across capital markets at several prestigious national & international Private Banks and Investment Management firms. Jaime joined the ArtWaves board because he believes that the Arts in all its forms and mediums should be accessible to all and wants to make a difference and serve his community by helping ArtWaves in achieving their organizational goals. Karen Tuttle A 25+ year marketing leader who is known to "look around corners" when building out initiatives, Karen takes a 360 degree view of problem solving and believes, when possible, that consensus through listening and conversation delivers the best results. An annual visitor to MDI for 35 years, Karen purchased property on the island in 2020 (Somesville), spending as much time here as work and life allow. Local causes she supports through donation and/or volunteer hours include ArtWaves, Friends of Acadia (putting the carriage roads to bed for the winter is a favorite) and the Somesville Village Improvement Society. Off island She has spent the last decade volunteering with disaster response, health and youth mentoring organizations such as All Hands And Hearts, World Central Kitchen, Partners-In-Health, Girls on the Run and RACE Cancer. Currently in a graduate program at Northeastern in nonprofit management with an aim towards a professional shift into this sector, Karen is excited about the opportunity to bring both her professional skills and passion for nonprofits into a board role at ArtWaves. |
