Call to Artists
Calling MDI Artists to boldly and creatively break the silence of domestic abuse. Seventy 4' x 2' Finding Our Voices banners are in Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor downtown business windows during the month of July.
Each banner features one of 25 Maine survivors of intimate partner abuse, aged 18 to 80, and including a prison guard and prisoner, architect, health food store owner, and nurse, stepping out of the darkness and into the light.
1) Find a banner that speaks to YOU.
2) In solidarity with this "Woman in the Window,” create a poem, essay, short story, dance piece, song, photograph, painting, sketch, fiber piece or any other expression of what you are feeling, experienced, or imagine about domestic abuse. You may submit up to two separate pieces.
Art pieces will be shared on social media and there will be a curated art exhibit that is a joint venture of ArtWaves and Finding Our Voices.
Thank you for adding your voice. Together, boldly and creatively, we WILL break the silence of domestic abuse!
