Pysanky ~ Family Friendly Ukrainian Egg Decorating Afternoon

Come explore the art of pysanky, Ukrainian egg decorating!

At the ArtWaves Kaleidoscope studio, the table is set with candles,  local eggs, kistkas (batik tools), vibrantly colored dyes, and warm wonderful beeswax.  

The step by step instructions -- basically apply the wax , dip in dye while you decorate with wax on another egg -- will introduce you to some color mixing and pattern ideas -- a good start to your meditative waxing adventure.

I first explored the art of pysanky with my children and their friends decades ago and, with you, the tradition of cultural appreciation continues! We will be using the same tools and methods that have been used for hundreds of years.

Gather with family or friends to batik - applying warm wax over the areas you want to keep, to make colorful elaborate designs. Try out the electric version of a kistka, or combine techniques. Follow traditional patterns, or create your own designs!
