Illustrating autumn leaves with watercolor with Claire Loon Baldwin, October 21. 12-4:30pm.

This is Session 1 of 2 in the Weekend Workshop: Illustrating the Forest.

Autumn leaves are where nature meets magic! Learn principles of scientific illustration and techniques with dip pens, ink, and watercolor. Claire Loon Baldwin, an illustrator whose clients include Grand Canyon National Park, Down East Magazine, and the Maine Audubon Society, will share her methods for illustrating autumn leaves with both precision and whimsy.

This class begins with a nature walk to gather specimens to paint, and get inspired by the splendor of Mount Desert Isle's peak foliage. Then, we head to the studio. Students will learn techniques for drawing with dip pens, creating watercolor blooms and bleeds, and mixing unique and complex colors. Everyone will leave with a watercolor and ink study of autumn leaves on archival paper. (And will they keep materials? I'm not sure what you have in mind)

All experience levels and ages are welcome! Children under 11 must have a guardian accompany them - please also note that the class will require driving, and participants should plan ahead for transportation.
