Zen Meditation: Drop-In Group 2024

Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Registration is not required. Please arrive a few minutes early to park and settle in.

The way of Zen is very simple: how one keeps one's mind, moment after moment after moment. It is not "tuning out" or creating a “blissed out” state. Instead Zen encourages us to "tune in" and realize the miracle of being alive right in this moment, whatever it holds.

Our weekly sessions are Zen practice stripped down to the basics. There is no chanting or ritual, just seated and walking meditation, followed by a short teaching sharing the wisdom of ancient and contemporary Zen Masters (including the Buddha himself).

All levels of experience, including none, are welcome, and instruction is enthusiastically offered to beginners. Meditation cushions and chairs are provided. (If you are new, please come a few minutes early so we can help you get set up).

COST:

Sessions are offered in accordance with the Buddha’s practice of dana (generosity). Donations of any amount are received with gratitude and help support the teaching and our practice space at ArtWaves.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:

Laura Bonyon Neal is an ordained Zen Buddhist priest, authorized  Zen teacher, and  Dharma heir of the late Most Venerable Wonji Dharma. Whether teaching, meditating, cooking, gardening, or drawing at ArtWaves, Laura holds Zen’s great question “What Is This?” at the forefront in order to keep her mind moment after moment after moment. And she really likes cats.

Your tax-deductible donations help support ArtWaves, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. Our mission is to make art accessible to the Mount Desert Island and surrounding communities.
